May 20: Jacob’s Trouble – God’s unique relationship with Israel

Ignoring the poor

There is a great contrast on the streets of many cities in Israel.  Great wealth struts down the streets while poverty lays on the sidewalks. From the days of Isaiah until today, the rich are often blind to those in need.  Taxes go to beautifying neighborhoods while many go without food.

Isaiah 3:13-23

The Lord stands up to plead,
And stands to judge the people.
The Lord will enter into judgment
With the elders of His people
And His princes:

 “For you have eaten up the vineyard;
The plunder of the poor is in your houses.
What do you mean by crushing My people
And grinding the faces of the poor?”
Says the Lord God of hosts.

Moreover the Lord says:

“Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,
And walk with outstretched necks
And wanton eyes,
Walking and mincing as they go,
Making a jingling with their feet,
Therefore the Lord will strike with a scab
The crown of the head of the daughters of Zion,
And the Lord will uncover their secret parts.”

In that day the Lord will take away the finery:
The jingling anklets, the scarves, and the crescents;
The pendants, the bracelets, and the veils;
The headdresses, the leg ornaments, and the headbands;
The perfume boxes, the charms,
and the rings;
The nose jewels,
the festal apparel, and the mantles,
The outer garments, the purses,
and the mirrors;
The fine linen, the turbans, and the robes.

PRAY FOR ISRAEL’S LEADERS TO HAVE GOD’S COMPASSION ON THE POOR AND NEEDY.

Sarah Hanna Rigler reunited with her rescuers
British POWS
Sarah was part of a January 1945 death march of 1200 women from a concentration camp to the Baltic coast with her mother and sister. Only 300 remained alive when they reached Gross Golmkau. Sarah, urged by her mother escaped to a nearby barn. She was found by a British POW working at the farm and smuggled into his prison camp Stalag 20B. The prisoners hid her and took turns nursing her back to health. When they were to be transferred to Germany they found shelter for her with a local woman. She was the only survivor in her family
