June 14: Jacob’s Trouble – The Nations

God’s Cup of Fury

We cannot change God’s ultimate plan of redemption which includes His judgement of the Gentiles and His discipline of Israel.  But we can stand in the gap for the salvation of our nations’ leaders that more of them will be saved even as they carry out God’s will.

This will does include that EVERY Gentile nation will turn against Israel.  We need to remember that God has always used the Gentile nations to purge and discipline Israel.

Jeremiah 25:15-16

For thus says the Lord God of Israel to me: “Take this wine cup of fury from My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. And they will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.” (NKJV)

But rather than being His humble servant, they take delight in the destruction and thus receive double judgement.

Jeremiah 25:27-29

“Therefore you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.”’  And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “You shall certainly drink!  For behold, I begin to bring calamity on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth,” says the Lord of hosts.’ (NKJV)

PRAY FOR YOUR CHURCH TO PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL TO THE LEADERS OF YOUR NATION THAT THEY MIGHT BE SAVED BEFORE GOD JUDGES THE NATION.

Aristides De Sousa Mendez was a Portuguese consul-general in Bordeaux, France. He defied orders and issued over 1500 visas in three days. Being escorted back to Portugal, he stopped at another consulate in Bayonne, France and issued visas there too. When he arrived home, he was stripped of his vocation and died penniless.
