February 5: Righteousness

For the next several weeks we will consider those whom the Lord considered to be righteous and pray for Israel to become the righteousness of God.

            Genesis 6:5-8

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Amid the overwhelming wickedness of mankind, Noah found grace in God’s eyes.  The Hebrew word used here is חך  (Chen)  which has the additional meanings of “favor and acceptance.”  It’s the same word used of the King who favored Esther and made her his queen.

Despite being surrounded with evil on every side, Noah lived a life that God considered “blameless.” We don’t know how Noah maintained a perfect life, rejecting the pressures of all those around him.  Nevertheless, we can see that God’s favor resulted in Noah and his family being spared of the destruction God was about to bring onto the earth.

PRAY ISRAELIS SEEK THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD AND TURN AWAY FROM EVIL.
